The tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Connecticut raised national awareness about the inadequacy of the mental health care system in our country. One potential positive out-come could be the establishment of a high quality and effective mental health care system that ensures no family or individual has difficulty accessing care. Unfortunately the unwarranted association between gun violence and mental illness may increase, rather that decrease the stigma.
At ARA we are proud to be Start/Finish Line corporate sponsors of the 2015 NAMI Mercer Walk to “SOCK IT TO STIGMA”. We all have loved ones and close friends who have been affected by the brain based biological disorders known as mental illness. NAMI Mercer is committed to encouraging the entire Mercer County community to support NAMI Mercer’s mission of providing free education, advocacy and support to individuals and families affected by mental illness. These services are not provided by traditional insurance but are necessary for living with these brain based biological disorders. The NAMI Walk will be Saturday, May 2nd 2015 at 9:00 am on the ETS (Educational Testing Service) Campus in Lawrenceville, N.J.
ARA will join the NAMI Mercer sneaker anti stigma campaign by setting up a STOMP Wall for $1 donations. We invite you to join our ARA team at the walk on May 2nd. You may support our team or one of our walkers by visiting the ARA team web site by clicking here (****). Donating at the NAMI site online is fast and secure.
All funds will be donated to NAMI Mercer and be used to support local and National programs. If you have any questions you can call out team captain and office manager Jamie Croshaw at 609-419-0400.
